It all started out with the idea to fund our shortfilm production by selling some of the 3d models via turbosquid. After doing some research we found out that there is a huge market not only for stock models but for stock images and stock footage as well, and that some of the 3d renderings were selling pretty well.
The idea of creating some kind of constant passive income sounded great, especially in these days, so we decided to give it a try. Instead of using our spare time to just expand our knowledge and create some technical tests, we will try to combine these tests with the creation of some actual product, which is sellable. Since christmas is drawing closer, we decided to create a christmas collection including a cartoon santa claus as our first task.
Further ideas include anatomical models and medical illustrations, cars, sports equipment, some funny cartoon characters, etc.
We decided to concentrate on stock models and images first and maybe adding stock footage later on.
So far we’ve uploaded our 3d models to these sites:
And our images to these sites:
- shutterstock
- fotolia
- dreamstime
- bigstockphoto
- iStock (still pending for approval)
- crestock (still pending for approval)
Right now shutterstock is getting the best results for us, but since it’s only been a couple of days I guess you can’t really tell. I will write about the results in another post sometime after christmas.
