First on Everest

On 29 May 1953, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest. But in 1924, Irvine and Mallory had already made the first serious attempt. Eye witnesses reported seeing them 300 metres below the peak before they vanished into the clouds.
